Core Strategy

The Core Strategy is one of a series of documents that will make up the Local Development Framework. The Core Strategy will deal with the strategic planning issues that face the Borough. It will set out in general terms, how, where and when development will take place in the Borough in the future.  It will not include detail or focus on individual development sites or specialist policy areas – its purpose is to set the overall framework for the future.

The Core Strategy will ‘join up’ town planning and land use issues with plans and strategies that deal with community issues such as health, community safety, housing, employment, community development, education, transport, the environment and regeneration. All other new planning documents, such as the Redhill Town Centre Area Action Plan need to be prepared in line with the strategic direction provided by the Core Strategy.

This document is not the final Core Strategy policy document. However, so that the reader can be informed at this early stage how the Core Strategy will look, it has been laid out in a similar form to the required layout for the Core Strategy. This document explains how we got to this stage, considers the results of previous consultations, and refers to evidence that has informed the Preferred Options and alternatives considered. Should the Preferred Options chosen be included in the final document, some of the background explanatory text, will be included in the final Core Strategy.
